The X-T2 does not display the shutter count in its menus. The count is embedded in every RAF file as part of the MakerNote metadata.
When buying a used X-T2, ask the seller to provide an original, unedited RAF file shot recently for the most accurate reading.

The Fujifilm X-T2 writes images in Fujifilm's RAF format. RAF files contain an embedded JPEG with full EXIF metadata, including the Fujifilm MakerNote. ShutterCount parses this structure and reads tag 0x1438 (ImageCount), which holds the cumulative shutter actuation count.
The same tag is used across all modern Fujifilm X-series and GFX bodies, making extraction consistent and reliable.

Formatting the memory card does not reset the shutter count. The counter is stored in the camera's firmware and written to each RAF file at capture time.
The MakerNote ImageCount tag reflects the camera's internal counter. While basic EXIF fields can be edited, tampering with the MakerNote is uncommon and difficult. Always verify from an original RAF file.
Both use MakerNote tag 0x1438 for the image count. The X-T3 added a backside-illuminated sensor (26.1 MP vs 24.3 MP), improved autofocus, and 4K/60p video. Both are rated for ~150,000 actuations.
