Drop a DNG RAW file from your Leica D-Lux 7 into shuttercount.app and get the exact shutter actuation count in seconds — processed entirely in your browser, never uploaded anywhere. You can also read the count directly from the camera menu.
Check Shutter Count →The Leica D-Lux 7 (2018) is Leica’s premium fixed-lens compact camera, based on the Panasonic LX100 II platform with Leica-specific optics, firmware, and finish. It features a 17 MP Multi-Aspect Micro Four Thirds sensor — a design that maintains full sensor width regardless of aspect ratio (4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 1:1), avoiding the resolution loss typical of cropped implementations — paired with a Leica DC Vario-Summilux 24–75mm f/1.7–2.8 ASPH zoom lens.
| Model | Release | Sensor | Est. Shutter Life | RAW Format |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Leica D-Lux 7 | 2018 | 17 MP Multi-Aspect MFT | ~200,000 | DNG |
| Leica D-Lux 8 | 2023 | 17 MP Multi-Aspect MFT | ~200,000 | DNG |
| Panasonic LX100 II | 2018 | 17 MP Multi-Aspect MFT | ~200,000 | RW2 |
Two methods are available. Both are accurate and neither requires uploading your DNG file.
The D-Lux 7 is used primarily by travel and street photographers. Its compact size and wide-aperture Summilux lens mean many units have accumulated meaningful counts over years of daily carry.
| Actuations | Assessment |
|---|---|
| 0 – 5,000 | Barely used — essentially new |
| 5,000 – 20,000 | Low use — excellent condition for its age |
| 20,000 – 60,000 | Normal enthusiast use — plenty of life remaining |
| 60,000 – 100,000 | Moderate use — reasonable price expected |
| 100,000 – 150,000 | Active use — price in potential shutter service |
| 150,000 + | Heavy use — beyond typical life estimate; significant discount warranted |
The Leica D-Lux 7 records images in DNG (Adobe Digital Negative) format. ShutterCount reads the shutter count from the DNG MakerNote EXIF block embedded in every RAW file. The processing happens entirely in your browser via JavaScript — your DNG file never leaves your computer.
The D-Lux 8 (2023) adds USB-C charging, a slightly updated processor, and 5 GHz Wi-Fi. If you need those features, pay the premium for an D-Lux 8. The D-Lux 7 delivers identical optical quality and is a strong value proposition at its current second-hand price — verify shutter count and lens element condition before purchasing either.
The DNG MakerNote shutter count is not reliably present in JPEG exports from the D-Lux 7. Use a DNG RAW file or the camera menu for an accurate count.
Drop a DNG file into shuttercount.app — the count is read from the MakerNote entirely in your browser. Or check via MENU → Setup → Shutter Count on the camera itself.
Leica has not officially published a shutter life rating for the D-Lux 7. Based on the shared Panasonic LX100 II platform and community data, ~200,000 actuations is the widely accepted estimate. Well-maintained bodies often exceed this figure.
Only an authorised Leica service centre can reset the hardware counter, and only following a physical shutter component replacement. EXIF-editing tools can modify file metadata but cannot change the counter stored on the camera itself.
Yes — at its current second-hand price the D-Lux 7 offers a compelling combination of the Summilux f/1.7 lens, the Multi-Aspect sensor, and Leica build quality in a compact travel body. Check the shutter count and inspect the lens element for any haze or fungus before purchasing.
