The Nikon Z8 II produces NEF RAW files using Nikon's TIFF-based container with a proprietary MakerNote structure. ShutterCount reads the Nikon MakerNote and extracts the shutter actuation count from the appropriate offset in the CameraInfo block.
The counter is stored as a little-endian value within the Nikon MakerNote. The Z8 II follows the same MakerNote layout introduced with the Z9 generation. All processing happens in your browser — the file never leaves your device.
The Z8 II inherits the Z9's fully electronic shutter option, which achieves up to 120 fps blackout-free burst without any mechanical curtain movement. Those exposures are not counted. Only shots taken with the mechanical shutter increment the counter.
