Samsung NX10 — The Original NX Mirrorless

The Samsung NX10 (2010) was the first camera ever produced with a Samsung NX-mount — the founding body of Samsung’s interchangeable-lens mirrorless system. Released in February 2010, it launched alongside three kit lenses (18–55mm f/3.5–5.6 OIS, 30mm f/2, and 50–200mm f/4–5.6 OIS) and introduced the world to the NX ecosystem that Samsung would develop for the next six years.

The NX10 used a 14.6 MP APS-C CMOS sensor, a 3-inch AMOLED touchscreen (novel at the time), an optional external EVF (SEF-KV10V, sold separately), and shot RAW in Samsung’s SRW format. All photos used the focal-plane mechanical shutter — there was no electronic shutter option. Maximum shutter speed was 1/4000 s; flash sync at 1/180 s.

Samsung NX system discontinued 2016. The NX10 is over 15 years old. No official Samsung service exists; third-party shutter parts are extremely scarce. A low shutter count NX10 in good condition is significantly more valuable than a high-count body.

How to Check Shutter Count on the Samsung NX10

  1. Take any photo with your Samsung NX10 and locate the .SRW RAW file on the memory card or computer.
  2. Open shuttercount.app in any modern browser — no installation required.
  3. Drag the SRW file onto the drop zone, or click to select it via file picker.
  4. The shutter count appears instantly. No upload, no account, no plugins required.
Use RAW (SRW): JPEG files from the NX10 do not contain reliable shutter count data. You must use an SRW RAW file for an accurate reading.

What Is a Good Shutter Count for a Used Samsung NX10?

The NX10’s estimated lifespan of ~100,000 actuations was typical for a first-generation consumer mirrorless. Given the body is now over 15 years old and service is unavailable, prioritise low-count units.

Actuation Count% of Est. LifeAssessment
0 – 10,0000 – 10 %Very low use — lightly used
10,000 – 30,00010 – 30 %Low use — good condition
30,000 – 60,00030 – 60 %Moderate use — typical for active shooter
60,000 – 85,00060 – 85 %High use — service not available; price accordingly
85,000 +85 %+Near or past rated life — shutter replacement very difficult

How Does ShutterCount Read the NX10 Shutter Count?

The Samsung NX10 stores the shutter count in the Samsung MakerNote section of every SRW RAW file. ShutterCount reads this value locally in your browser without transmitting the file. The shutter count is a hardware counter that persists across battery changes, firmware updates, and power cycles; it cannot be reset without physical shutter replacement.

NX10 historical context

The NX10 launched at a time when the only other APS-C mirrorless competition was the Micro Four Thirds system (Panasonic G1, Olympus E-P1). Sony NEX did not arrive until mid-2010. The NX10’s 14.6 MP sensor was competitive at launch; by the NX system’s end in 2016, the flagship NX1 had reached 28.2 MP BSI.

Does the NX10 support electronic shutter?

No. The NX10 uses only a mechanical focal-plane shutter. Every exposure increments the mechanical counter. There is no silent electronic shutter mode.

Samsung NX10 Shutter Count — FAQ

How do I check the shutter count of my Samsung NX10?

Shoot an SRW RAW file with your NX10, then drop it into shuttercount.app. The count is read from the Samsung MakerNote in your browser — no upload needed.

What is the estimated shutter life of the Samsung NX10?

The estimated lifespan is approximately 100,000 actuations. Samsung did not publish an official figure for the NX10.

Is 30,000 actuations a lot for a Samsung NX10?

At 30,000 actuations the NX10 has used roughly 30% of its estimated lifespan — moderate use. For a 15+ year old camera with no service support, prefer units under 20,000 when possible.

Can the NX10 shutter count be reset?

Resetting the counter requires physical shutter replacement. Given Samsung’s market exit, this is rarely attempted. Always verify from an original SRW file, not from a screenshot or JPEG.

What NX lenses work on the Samsung NX10?

All Samsung NX-mount lenses are compatible with the NX10, including the original trio (18–55mm, 30mm, 50–200mm), plus all subsequent NX lenses (16mm, 20mm, 85mm, and others). Third-party NX-mount lenses from Samyang and Schneider Kreuznach also work. Canon EF and Sony E adapters exist but autofocus is not supported.
