The A7C is positioned as a compact travel and content creation camera. High shutter counts suggest heavy stills use, which is somewhat unusual for this body type. A7C owners who primarily shoot video or electronic shutter may show very low counts regardless of age.
The Sony A7C stores its mechanical shutter count encrypted in ARW MakerNote tag 0x9050. ShutterCount applies Sony's cubic residue decryption algorithm (modulo 249) and reads the count from byte offset 0x003a within the decrypted block. If budget allows, the A7C II offers meaningful upgrades: 33MP vs 24.2MP, far better AI subject tracking autofocus, 4K/60p video, a 300,000-actuation shutter, and a slightly larger body with an actual viewfinder option. If you find a well-priced used A7C in good condition, it remains an excellent compact full-frame camera for travel and everyday photography.
Silent / electronic shutter mode does not use the mechanical shutter and does not increment the counter. Only mechanical shutter frames count toward the 200,000 rated life.
