Xiaomi 15 Shutter Count:
How to Check Image Counter

The Xiaomi 15 (2024/2025) captures RAW images in DNG format via Leica Pro mode and has no mechanical shutter — the image counter in each DNG file records total electronic captures. Enable Leica Pro RAW and drop a DNG file to read it instantly.

Xiaomi 15 — Leica Triple Camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite

The Xiaomi 15 is the standard flagship model in Xiaomi’s 2024/2025 15-series lineup, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. Its camera system is developed in partnership with Leica and consists of a 50 MP Sony LYT-928 main sensor (f/1.62, OIS, Leica Summilux optics), a 50 MP ultrawide (f/2.0, 115°), and a 50 MP 3.2× telephoto (f/2.0, OIS). The compact 6.36-inch OLED display runs at 120 Hz.

The Leica partnership brings tuned colour science in Leica Authentic and Leica Vibrant modes. RAW capture is available in Leica Pro mode, which produces DNG files containing the image counter in their EXIF metadata. Like all smartphones, the Xiaomi 15 uses CMOS electronic readout only — there is no mechanical shutter.

Leica Pro mode required: Standard Xiaomi 15 auto-mode photos (Leica Authentic/Vibrant JPEG) do not embed the image counter. Only DNG files captured in Leica Pro mode contain the ImageNumber EXIF field readable by ShutterCount.

How to Check the Xiaomi 15 Image Counter

  1. Open Leica Pro mode: In the Camera app, swipe to the Pro or Leica Pro shooting mode. The Leica-branded Pro mode provides full manual control and RAW output.
  2. Enable RAW output: In Leica Pro mode, tap the format selector at the top of the viewfinder and choose RAW or RAW + JPEG. DNG files are saved to DCIM/Camera.
  3. Take a test shot: Capture any photo with RAW active. DNG files are created alongside optional JPEG copies.
  4. Transfer to a computer: Connect the Xiaomi 15 via USB-C (choose “File transfer” mode) and copy the .DNG file from DCIM/Camera.
  5. Drop into shuttercount.app: Drag the DNG file onto shuttercount.app. The ImageNumber counter is read and displayed instantly — no upload.
  6. Alternative — ExifTool: Run exiftool -ImageNumber yourfile.DNG to read the counter on any desktop platform.
Leica colour profiles and RAW: In Leica Pro mode, selecting Authentic or Vibrant colour profile affects only the JPEG preview embedded in the DNG — the RAW sensor data itself is colour-profile-neutral. The ImageNumber counter is present in all DNG files regardless of which profile was active.

The Xiaomi 15 is the more compact choice with a lighter body and simpler camera system. The Ultra’s 1-inch sensor delivers more dynamic range and low-light detail, but both models produce identical DNG files with the same ImageNumber counter structure.

Xiaomi 15 Shutter Count — FAQ

Does the Xiaomi 15 have a mechanical shutter?

No. All Xiaomi flagship smartphones use CMOS electronic readout. There is no focal-plane shutter and no rated mechanical lifespan. The image counter in Leica Pro DNG files reflects total electronic captures.

How is the Xiaomi 15 different from the Xiaomi 14?

The Xiaomi 15 upgrades the chip (Snapdragon 8 Elite vs 8 Gen 3), the main sensor (Sony LYT-928 vs LYT-900), and refines the Leica optics with an updated Summilux lens design. The telephoto focal length (3.2×) and form factor remain similar to the Xiaomi 14. Both models support Leica Pro RAW capture with the same DNG format.

Does the Leica partnership affect the RAW output of the Xiaomi 15?

Leica’s involvement covers optical design (Summilux lenses), colour science (Authentic and Vibrant profiles), and look-and-feel of the camera UI. The DNG RAW output contains unprocessed sensor data — Leica colour processing applies only to the embedded JPEG preview and JPEG exports. For RAW editing, the sensor data is identical regardless of which Leica colour profile was selected.

Can the image counter on a Xiaomi 15 be reset?

No. The counter is stored in persistent hardware memory and cannot be cleared by a factory reset, MIUI/HyperOS flash, or any user action. It is a reliable cumulative usage indicator.
