Google Pixel 10 Pro Shutter Count:
How to Check Image Counter

The Google Pixel 10 Pro (2025) supports Pro mode RAW in DNG format and has no mechanical shutter — the image counter stored in each DNG file records total electronic captures. Drop a Pro mode RAW DNG to read it instantly.

Pixel 10 Pro — Tensor G5, Triple Camera System

The Google Pixel 10 Pro is powered by the Google Tensor G5 chip (with a dedicated Titan M3 security coprocessor) and features a triple-camera system: a 50 MP main sensor (f/1.68, OIS, Samsung GNK or successor), a 48 MP ultrawide camera with autofocus (f/2.0), and a 48 MP 5× periscope telephoto (f/2.8, OIS). Google’s Tensor G5 brings enhanced on-device AI for improved Night Sight, Real Tone skin tones, and Video Boost — the video-only HDR+ pipeline that is separate from the still image RAW counter.

Like all Pixel smartphones, the Pixel 10 Pro uses CMOS electronic readout only. There is no mechanical focal-plane shutter. Every image increments the persistent electronic image counter embedded in Pro mode DNG files.

No mechanical shutter — no shutter wear: The Pixel 10 Pro has no mechanical focal-plane shutter. The counter in Pro mode DNG files reflects total electronic captures and has no bearing on hardware wear.

How to Check the Pixel 10 Pro Image Counter

  1. Enable RAW in Pro mode: Open the Camera app, tap More and select Pro. Tap the three-dot menu, go to Settings, and enable RAW (saves DNG alongside JPEG). The RAW indicator will appear in the viewfinder.
  2. Take a test shot: Capture any photo with Pro mode RAW active. The DNG is saved to your Gallery alongside the processed JPEG.
  3. Transfer the DNG to a computer: Connect via USB-C, set USB mode to File transfer (MTP), and navigate to DCIM/Camera on your PC. Copy the DNG file. Confirm the file has a .dng extension.
  4. Drop into shuttercount.app: Drag the DNG file onto shuttercount.app. The image counter is read from the DNG MakerNote and displayed instantly — no upload.
  5. Alternative — ExifTool: Run exiftool -ImageNumber yourfile.dng to read the counter directly from the metadata.
Pro mode only: Standard Pixel camera shots saved as JPEG or HEIF do not embed the image counter. You must use Pro mode with RAW capture enabled to generate a DNG with the counter. Video Boost captures are video-only and not relevant to the still image counter.

What to Check When Buying a Used Pixel 10 Pro

The image counter is a useful indicator of how intensively the device was used, but it carries no mechanical wear significance. These are the meaningful factors to evaluate:

What to CheckHow
Battery healthSettings → Battery → Battery health. Google reports cycle count and capacity; below 80% original capacity warrants replacement
Display conditionInspect the 6.3-inch Super Actua LTPO OLED for burn-in, especially navigation bar and status bar areas on heavy-use devices
Camera lensesInspect all three lenses for scratches, chips, or fogging; test ultrawide autofocus and 5× telephoto at distance
Aluminum frameInspect the polished aluminum frame for dents or damage around USB-C and volume buttons
Temperature SensingCheck thermometer accuracy against a known reference if the device was used in extreme conditions
Image counterHigh count (>50,000) indicates intensive use — useful context, not a hardware failure indicator
Battery health is the primary metric: Unlike a DSLR where the shutter count determines wear, the Pixel 10 Pro’s condition is dominated by battery degradation. Google displays cycle count and health percentage under Settings → Battery.

Pixel 10 Pro Shutter Count — FAQ

Does the Google Pixel 10 Pro have a mechanical shutter?

No. All Pixel smartphones use CMOS electronic readout. There is no focal-plane shutter mechanism and no rated mechanical lifespan.

How do I enable RAW on the Google Pixel 10 Pro?

Switch to Pro mode in the Camera app, then tap the three-dot menu → Settings and enable RAW. The camera will save a DNG alongside each JPEG. Note that RAW is only available in Pro mode, not in the standard auto mode.

Can the image counter on a Pixel 10 Pro be reset?

No. The image counter is stored in persistent hardware memory and cannot be reset by a factory reset, Android update, or any user action.

What image counter is typical for a used Pixel 10 Pro?

A casual user accumulates roughly 5,000–20,000 captures per year; an active photographer may exceed 50,000 per year. There is no mechanical wear threshold — a high count indicates heavy use, not proximity to failure.

What is the difference between the Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro?

The Pixel 10 Pro upgrades to the Tensor G5 chip (improved AI, better on-device processing), delivers enhanced Night Sight and computational photography, and refines Video Boost for improved video HDR performance. The triple-camera hardware layout (50 MP main, 48 MP ultrawide with AF, 48 MP 5× telephoto) is an evolution of the Pixel 9 Pro system. The Pro mode RAW counter works identically on both generations.
