Drop a DNG file from your Leica M10-R and get the exact shutter actuation count in seconds — processed entirely in your browser, never uploaded anywhere.
Check Shutter Count →The Leica M10-R (2020) is the high-resolution variant of the M10 rangefinder, featuring a 40.89 MP full-frame BSI-CMOS sensor in the same slim M10 body (33.75 mm thick). The higher resolution and improved dynamic range make it the choice for landscape, studio, and fine-art photographers who demand exceptional detail. The cloth focal-plane shutter and native DNG output are identical to the standard M10.
| Model | Release | Sensor | Est. Shutter Life | RAW Format |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Leica M10-R | 2020 | 40.89 MP full-frame BSI-CMOS | ~150,000 | DNG |
| Leica M10 (type 3656) | 2017 | 24 MP full-frame CMOS | ~150,000 | DNG |
| Leica M11 | 2022 | 60 MP full-frame BSI-CMOS | ~150,000 | DNG |
The Leica M10-R does not show shutter count in its on-camera menu. The count is stored in the MakerNote EXIF of every DNG file.

The M10-R appeals mainly to landscape, studio and travel photographers who tend to shoot deliberately. Rapid-fire photojournalism is unusual with an M rangefinder, so very low counts are common even on frequently used bodies.
| Actuation Count | % of Est. Life | Assessment |
|---|---|---|
| 0 – 10,000 | 0 – 7 % | Very low use — near new |
| 10,000 – 40,000 | 7 – 27 % | Low use — substantial life remaining |
| 40,000 – 80,000 | 27 – 53 % | Moderate use — typical active enthusiast |
| 80,000 – 120,000 | 53 – 80 % | High use — inspect carefully; negotiate |
| 120,000 + | 80 %+ | Near est. limit — factor Leica service costs (~€500–1,000+) |
The M10-R offers 40.89 MP while the newer M11 (2022) offers 60 MP. Both use BSI-CMOS sensors. The M11 also introduces triple-resolution DNG capture (18 / 36 / 60 MP binning modes) and USB-C charging. For most practical purposes, the 40.89 MP of the M10-R is more than sufficient — the DNG files are large but manageable, and printing at A1 size (84 × 60 cm) is entirely comfortable.
The M10-R commands a lower used price than the M11, making it an attractive entry point into high-resolution Leica M photography. Both cameras accept the same M-mount lenses. If the M11's features (USB-C, in-camera DNG compression options, 60 MP) are not compelling for your workflow, a low-count M10-R represents excellent value.

No. Like all Leica M digital cameras, the M10-R uses only a mechanical cloth focal-plane shutter. Every exposure increments the shutter count. There is no silent electronic mode.
Yes. Leica service is significantly more expensive than Japanese camera brands. Budget €500–1,000+ for a shutter replacement through an authorised Leica service centre, plus additional costs for any other servicing found during inspection.
Uncompressed DNGs from the M10-R are typically 75–85 MB per file. Leica also offers compressed DNG recording (losslessly compressed), reducing file sizes to approximately 40–50 MB. Factor storage capacity into your workflow when evaluating used bodies.
