The P950 (2020) reaches only 83× / 2000 mm equiv, but is much lighter and more portable. For most wildlife photographers, the P950 hits a better balance of reach and portability. The P1100 is preferred for moon photography and extreme telephoto work where the extra reach genuinely matters.
No user-level reset is possible. The counter is stored in persistent hardware memory and cannot be reset by formatting the memory card, applying a firmware update, or performing a factory reset. Only Nikon Service Center intervention can reset the counter, typically after a shutter replacement.
