Drop an ORF RAW file from your Olympus E-450 (EVOLT E-450) to instantly read the shutter actuation count — processed entirely in your browser, never uploaded anywhere. The E-450 is a compact 10 MP Four Thirds DSLR with a Live MOS sensor and full ORF RAW support.
Check Shutter Count →The Olympus E-450 (2008), sold internationally as the EVOLT E-450, is a lightweight consumer Four Thirds DSLR aimed at first-time DSLR buyers upgrading from compact cameras. It features a 10.0 MP Four Thirds Live MOS sensor, TruePic III+ processor, Shadow Adjustment Technology, and a compact body based on the E-420 chassis. Notable additions over the E-420 include in-camera RAW processing and extended colour reproduction modes. The mechanical shutter is rated at approximately 100,000 actuations, consistent with Olympus consumer-class DSLRs of this generation.
| Model | Release | Sensor | Rated Shutter Life | RAW Format |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Olympus E-450 | 2008 | 10 MP Four Thirds | ~100,000 | ORF |
| Olympus E-420 (predecessor) | 2008 | 10 MP Four Thirds | ~100,000 | ORF |

| Olympus E-620 (step-up) | 2009 | 12.3 MP Four Thirds | ~100,000 | ORF |
| Actuation Count | % of Rated Life | Assessment |
|---|---|---|
| 0 – 10,000 | 0 – 10 % | Very low use — near new |
| 10,000 – 30,000 | 10 – 30 % | Low use |
| 30,000 – 60,000 | 30 – 60 % | Moderate use |
| 60,000 – 85,000 | 60 – 85 % | High use — negotiate price |
| 85,000 + | 85 %+ | Near or past rated life — budget for shutter replacement |
The E-450 was primarily a family and travel camera, so many used examples have low shutter counts. Also inspect the sensor for dust — the Four Thirds sensor size means smaller particles may be visible, and the E-450 relies on the SSWF (Supersonic Wave Filter) dust reduction system which can become less effective over time.
Yes. Drop an E-450 ORF file into shuttercount.app to read the total actuation count directly from the Olympus MakerNote Equipment IFD. No upload required — the file is processed entirely in your browser.
Both share the same 10 MP Live MOS sensor, TruePic III+ processor, and Four Thirds mount. The E-450 adds: in-camera RAW development (you can convert ORF to JPEG in-camera), extended colour reproduction modes, and a Shadow Adjustment function to recover shadow detail in-camera. The optical and shutter hardware is identical.
The Four Thirds (4/3) system predates Micro Four Thirds (MFT). The E-450 uses the larger, deeper Four Thirds mount. With an MMF-1 or MMF-2 adapter from Olympus, MFT lenses can be physically attached, but phase-detect autofocus is not available — the camera switches to slower contrast-detect AF. For best results, use dedicated Four Thirds Zuiko Digital lenses.
At current used prices the E-450 is very affordable. The Live MOS sensor produces pleasing colours and good dynamic range at low ISO. The compact body is one of the lightest DSLRs ever made. Its main limitation is the CF card interface (harder to find cheap high-capacity CF cards) and the absence of video. Verify the shutter count from an ORF file before purchasing, and ask the seller to include a lens from the Zuiko Digital range.
