The Panasonic Lumix GM1 does not store shutter count in RW2 files. Check via the camera menu or the Panasonic Image App — or use shuttercount.app for cameras that embed the count in their RAW files.
Check Shutter Count →The Panasonic Lumix GM1, released in November 2013, was the world's smallest interchangeable-lens camera at launch. Its body measures just 98.5×54.9×30.4 mm and weighs 173 g with battery and card — lighter than many compact cameras. Despite its size, it uses the standard Micro Four Thirds mount and is compatible with all MFT lenses. The sensor is a 16 MP Live MOS chip shared with the GF6. It has no in-body image stabilisation (IBIS), no built-in electronic viewfinder, and no weather sealing. Panasonic does not publish an official shutter life rating for the GM1; the estimated mechanical shutter life is approximately 100,000 actuations.
| Model | Release | Sensor | Est. Shutter Life | RAW Format |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Panasonic GM1 | 2013 | 16 MP M4/3 Live MOS | ~100,000 | RW2 |
| Panasonic GM5 | 2014 | 16 MP M4/3 Live MOS | ~100,000 | RW2 |
| Panasonic GF6 | 2013 | 16 MP M4/3 Live MOS | ~100,000 | RW2 |
| Panasonic G85/G80 | 2016 | 16 MP M4/3 | 200,000 | RW2 |
Alternative: Connect the GM1 to the Panasonic Image App on your smartphone via Wi-Fi. The camera information screen in the app displays the shutter count.
The GM1's electronic shutter mode (silent shooting) does not increment the mechanical counter. 4K video and burst shooting via electronic shutter are also excluded from the count. However, the GM1 predates 4K recording — it captures video up to 1080/60i only.
| Shutter Count | % of Est. Life | Assessment |
|---|---|---|
| 0 – 5,000 | < 5 % | Lightly used — excellent condition likely |
| 5,000 – 25,000 | 5 – 25 % | Moderate use — still very healthy |
| 25,000 – 60,000 | 25 – 60 % | Heavier use — inspect body carefully |
| 60,000 – 85,000 | 60 – 85 % | Well used — negotiate price accordingly |
| 85,000 + | 85 %+ | Approaching estimated limit |
The GM1 was popular as a travel and backup camera, so many used units have relatively low shutter counts. Its compact body is prone to scuffs on the corners — inspect the mount and contact pins closely.
Panasonic does not embed the shutter count in RW2 files for any Lumix camera. The count is maintained in the camera's internal firmware and accessed only via the Setup menu or the Panasonic Image App. This differs from Fujifilm RAF, Sony ARW, and Nikon NEF files which include the count — and which shuttercount.app can read directly in your browser without uploading anything.
Go to MENU → Setup (wrench) → Shutter Count. Alternatively, use the Panasonic Image App via Wi-Fi. RW2 files do not embed the count.
Panasonic does not publish an official rating for the GM1. Based on its compact entry-level class, the estimated mechanical shutter life is approximately 100,000 actuations.
No. The GM1 does not have IBIS. It relies entirely on optically stabilised lenses (OIS). The kit lens, the Lumix G VARIO 12–32mm f/3.5–5.6 ASPH, includes OIS. For non-OIS lenses, you shoot without stabilisation.
The GM5 (2014) adds a built-in 1.165M-dot electronic viewfinder and a small control dial on top, making the body slightly taller. Both share the same 16 MP sensor, mount, and RW2 format. The GM5 was the final model in Panasonic's GM line, discontinued around 2016.
Yes. The GM1 uses the standard Micro Four Thirds mount and is compatible with all MFT lenses from Panasonic, Olympus (OM System), Sigma, and other manufacturers. Note that large zoom lenses look oversized on the tiny GM1 body.
