Xiaomi 12T Pro Shutter Count:
How to Check Image Counter

The Xiaomi 12T Pro (2022) shoots native DNG in Pro mode with a 200 MP Samsung ISOCELL HM5 main sensor and has no mechanical shutter — the image counter in each DNG records total electronic captures. Drop a RAW DNG file to read it instantly.

Xiaomi 12T Pro — 200 MP Sensor, Electronic Shutter

The Xiaomi 12T Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ and features a flagship 200 MP main camera system. Its triple-camera array includes a 200 MP Samsung ISOCELL HM5 main sensor (f/1.7, OIS), an 8 MP ultrawide (f/2.2, 120°), and a 2 MP telemacro (f/2.4). Like all smartphones, every camera uses CMOS electronic readout — there is no mechanical focal-plane shutter. The image counter in a DNG RAW file increments with every capture.

Released in October 2022, the 12T Pro was one of the first mass-market smartphones to offer a 200 MP main sensor, using pixel-binning to produce 12.5 MP (16-in-1) or 50 MP (4-in-1) images in standard shooting modes. Full 200 MP output is available in Pro mode alongside DNG RAW capture.

No mechanical shutter — no shutter wear: The Xiaomi 12T Pro has no mechanical focal-plane shutter. The counter in the DNG file reflects total electronic captures. A high image count indicates heavy use, but carries no hardware failure risk related to shutter wear.

How to Check the Xiaomi 12T Pro Image Counter

  1. Enable RAW in Pro mode: Open the Camera app and switch to Pro mode. Tap the RAW toggle (displayed as “RAW” or “DNG” in the top bar) to enable DNG output.
  2. Shoot a test photo: Capture any subject. The Xiaomi 12T Pro saves a DNG alongside a JPEG in Pro mode. Files are stored in DCIM/Camera. Note that full 200 MP DNG files are large (50–80 MB).
  3. Transfer the DNG to a computer: Connect via USB in File Transfer (MTP) mode. Copy the .dng file to your computer. Alternatively, use Xiaomi Share or a cloud service.
  4. Drop into shuttercount.app: Drag the DNG file onto shuttercount.app. The tool reads the image counter from the DNG EXIF MakerNote and displays it instantly — no upload required.
  5. Alternative — ExifTool: Run exiftool -ImageNumber yourfile.DNG in a terminal to read the counter directly from the EXIF metadata.
Note: Standard Xiaomi photos (HEIF or JPEG) do not contain the image counter in a readable form. You must use a DNG RAW file from Pro mode. Photos shared via messaging apps are re-compressed to JPEG, stripping all RAW data.

What to Check When Buying a Used Xiaomi 12T Pro

Because there is no mechanical shutter, the image counter has no direct wear implication. Prioritise these checks when evaluating a used Xiaomi 12T Pro:

What to CheckHow
Battery healthSettings → Battery → Battery Health Evaluation. Xiaomi shows remaining capacity as a percentage. The 12T Pro has a 5000 mAh battery with 120W HyperCharge.
Display conditionCheck the 6.67-inch AMOLED for burn-in, dead pixels, or pressure cracks. Test at maximum 144 Hz refresh rate.
Camera lens glassInspect the large 200 MP main lens housing for scratches. Check ultrawide separately. Both are unprotected by sapphire on this model.
Body conditionInspect the flat Corning Gorilla Glass 5 back and aluminium frame for chips or cracks around the large camera module.
Image counterHigh count (>50,000) suggests active use — the 200 MP mode generates large files but the counter increments the same as any other shot.

Xiaomi 12T Pro — 200 MP & DNG Technical Notes

The 200 MP ISOCELL HM5 uses a “ChameleonCell” pixel-binning architecture, grouping pixels as 2×2 (4-in-1, producing 50 MP) or 4×4 (16-in-1, producing 12.5 MP) depending on lighting. In Pro RAW mode, the camera captures full 200 MP data without binning, resulting in extremely large DNG files. Full-resolution DNG capture at 200 MP requires good lighting and a stable hand or tripod — the large sensor benefits from OIS.

Image Counter in DNG EXIF

The image counter is stored in the DNG EXIF under the ImageNumber field in Xiaomi’s MakerNote IFD. This counter increments with every capture — including AI shots, burst captures, and video frames if applicable — and cannot be reset by a factory reset.

Xiaomi 12T Pro Image Counter — FAQ

Does the Xiaomi 12T Pro have a mechanical shutter?

No. All Xiaomi smartphones use CMOS electronic readout — there is no mechanical focal-plane shutter. The “shutter sound” is a synthetic effect. The image counter in the DNG file is a software counter reflecting total electronic captures.

What is the difference between Xiaomi 12T Pro and Xiaomi 13 Pro?

The Xiaomi 13 Pro (2023) replaced the 200 MP approach with a 50 MP Sony IMX989 1-inch sensor — a larger physical sensor that captures significantly more light per pixel despite the lower resolution. The 13 Pro also introduced the Leica partnership and uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. The 12T Pro’s 200 MP sensor produces very high-resolution crops in good light but is outperformed in low light by the IMX989’s larger pixels.

Is the Xiaomi 12T Pro supported by shuttercount.app?

Yes — drop a DNG RAW file from the Xiaomi 12T Pro’s Pro mode into shuttercount.app and the tool will display the image counter.
