Drop a DNG RAW file from your Leica C-Lux to check the shutter count — processed entirely in your browser, never uploaded anywhere. The C-Lux is Leica’s premium 1-inch sensor travel compact featuring a 20.1 MP sensor and Leica DC Vario-Elmar 24–360mm f/3.3–6.4 zoom.
Check Shutter Count →The Leica C-Lux (2018) is a premium travel zoom compact built on the Panasonic TZ200 / ZS200 platform with Leica firmware, optics branding, and finishing. It pairs a 20.1 MP 1-inch MOS CMOS sensor with a Leica DC Vario-Elmar 24–360mm f/3.3–6.4 lens (15× optical zoom) — offering outstanding reach in a jacket-pocket body. Unlike the Panasonic TZ200, which outputs RW2 files, the C-Lux outputs DNG, making the shutter count directly readable via shuttercount.app. Leica does not publish a rated shutter life for the C-Lux.
| Model | Release | Sensor | Zoom | Est. Shutter Life |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Leica C-Lux | 2018 | 20.1 MP 1-inch MOS | 24–360mm f/3.3–6.4 | ~200,000 (est.) |
| Leica D-Lux 7 | 2018 | 17 MP 4/3 Multi-Aspect | 24–75mm f/1.7–2.8 | ~200,000 (est.) |
| Leica V-Lux 5 | 2019 | 20.1 MP 1-inch MOS | 25–400mm f/2.8–4.0 | ~200,000 (est.) |
Navigate to MENU → Setup (wrench icon) → Shutter Count. The current total actuation count is displayed directly on screen without needing a RAW file or computer.
| Actuation Count | % of Est. Life | Assessment |
|---|---|---|
| 0 – 10,000 | 0 – 5 % | Very low use — near new |
| 10,000 – 50,000 | 5 – 25 % | Low to moderate use |
| 50,000 – 120,000 | 25 – 60 % | Moderate use — normal for active travel |
| 120,000 – 170,000 | 60 – 85 % | High use — negotiate price |
| 170,000 + | 85 %+ | Near or past estimated life |
C-Lux bodies used for extensive video work may show a low mechanical shutter count that understates overall wear, since video recording uses the electronic shutter. Also inspect the zoom mechanism for play or hesitation, the touchscreen, and EVF condition on used examples.
The C-Lux uses a 20.1 MP 1-inch (13.2×8.8 mm) MOS CMOS sensor — the same physically large sensor used in the Panasonic TZ200/ZS200. At this sensor size, the C-Lux delivers noticeably better image quality than compact cameras using the smaller 1/2.3-inch sensors common in this zoom range. The 15× optical zoom (24–360mm equivalent) covers both wide-angle and significant telephoto reach in a body small enough for a shirt pocket.
The Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens is the same optical formula as the Panasonic TZ200 lens. In-body 5-axis optical image stabilisation compensates for approximately 5 stops of camera shake — particularly effective at the telephoto end of the zoom range. Built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 2,330K-dot electronic viewfinder (EVF) are included.
Yes. Drop a DNG file from your C-Lux into shuttercount.app and the actuation count is displayed immediately. The count is stored in the DNG MakerNote. You can also read the count on-camera via MENU → Setup → Shutter Count.
The C-Lux and TZ200/ZS200 share the same sensor, lens, and processing hardware. The premium buys Leica’s firmware (different colour rendering and menu system), the Leica brand, and the DNG RAW format (vs RW2 on the TZ200). For image quality alone, the TZ200/ZS200 is equally capable. For Leica enthusiasts, the brand experience and DNG output may justify the cost.
Above 100,000 actuations (50% of the ~200,000 estimate), factor shutter wear into the negotiated price. Above 150,000 actuations, consider the possibility of near-term shutter maintenance. Below 50,000 actuations, the mechanical shutter has minimal wear and should not be a concern.
The C-Lux (24–360mm, 1-inch sensor) prioritises zoom range and pocketability for travel, while the D-Lux 8 (24–75mm f/1.7–2.8, 4/3 sensor) prioritises wide aperture and larger sensor for image quality. The D-Lux 8 produces better low-light images and shallower depth-of-field; the C-Lux reaches 360mm for wildlife and events. Both use DNG RAW and on-camera shutter count menus.
