The LX3 is now well over 15 years old. For a camera of its vintage, condition and light seals matter as much as shutter count. A high counter on a well-maintained LX3 may be more trustworthy than a low counter on a poorly stored example.

The Panasonic Lumix LX5 (2010) succeeded the LX3 with an extended zoom range: 24–90 mm equivalent (vs 24–60 mm on the LX3), achieved by widening to f/2.0–3.3 at the telephoto end. The sensor remained the same 10.1 MP 1/1.63-inch CCD. Key additions on the LX5: improved HD video (720p/30fps vs AVCHD Lite on LX3), a larger 3.0-inch LCD (vs 3.0″ on LX3 but with improved resolution), and an external stereo microphone socket.
