Check Shutter Count →The Olympus Tough TG-4 (2015) is the fourth-generation TG rugged compact and a significant step forward in the series. It introduced RAW (ORF) file capture for the first time in the TG lineup, along with in-camera focus stacking and focus bracketing — features aimed at macro and underwater photographers. The 16 MP 1/2.3” BSI CMOS sensor and the 25–100mm f/2.0 lens (4× zoom) were retained from the TG-3, along with IP68 waterproofing to 15 metres and the built-in GPS, Wi-Fi, and temperature sensor.

The TG-4 appeals to macro and underwater photographers who valued its focus stacking feature alongside the rugged build. Bodies used for dive trips or expedition macro work may show high counts relative to casual users.

The Olympus Tough TG-4 records images in Olympus’ ORF format. ShutterCount attempts to extract the shutter count from the Olympus MakerNote IFD embedded in the ORF file. On OM-D and PEN series bodies this count is reliably stored; the compact Tough TG series does not always store a standard lifetime counter in the RAW file, so the camera menu method is preferred for the most accurate result.

Yes — the TG-4 remains one of the best compact waterproof cameras for macro and underwater photography, thanks to its f/2.0 constant-aperture lens and in-camera focus stacking. Its 16 MP 15-metre-rated body delivers excellent results for snorkelling and shallow-dive photography. For depths beyond 15 m a dedicated housing (PT-056) is available.
The TG-4 introduced in-camera focus stacking and focus bracketing in the Microscope mode. It automatically takes multiple exposures at slightly different focal distances and combines them into a single sharply focused composite — ideal for macro subjects where depth of field is extremely shallow.
Only an authorised service centre can reset the internal hardware counter after a mechanical component replacement. The counter shown in the camera menu is the permanent lifetime total and cannot be altered by the user.
